part 3 - trimester 2

and we are back!

trimester two is the fun one! im really excited to talk about tri two because thats when you notice all the changes.

but first i want to back track a bit.

i completely forgot (see it happens) one of the biggest and most disgusting symptoms i had for the first 2 months of trimester one. i had tonsil stones. so yuck! i’ve never had tonsil stones before, ever! but for some repulsive reason i had them at the. start of pregnancy. i have no idea why or what brought them on, but it was awful. if you don’t know what tonsil stones are then google it. im not even going to explain.

we decided to book an appointment with dr tim sturrock Obstetrician. tim has delievered a few of my friends babies and they all spoke very highly of him. i almost feel like he’s DELIVERED all the babies in bayside haha! how an OB works is they manage your entire pregnancy and DELIVER your baby. pretty much everything is organised by them. we started by seeing tim once a month. he would check over my blood pressure and he also has an ultrasound machine so we were able to see the baby every month. tim has been fantastic throughout the experience. he really. educated michael and i on everything, because we knew nothing!

if you want to go with an ob or down that private route, tim costs around $5000 to manage the pregnancy and deliver out baby. your 3 big ultrasounds are not included in this cost, nor is the hospital fee (if you are using health insurance you pay the excess). Yes, this is expensive. however, we wanted our hands held, tightly.

back to trimester two.

around week 10 we did our CHROMOSOME testing and gender test. once our results came back all clear we decided to go public with our pregnancy.

obviously big mouth michael had pretty much told everyone with a pair of ears beforehand! nonetheless, we were in bali and decided to share the news with everyone. it was really. nice to be away and have the time to not be distracted and read every lovely congratulations message.

pregancy annoucement

during the first trimester i was defiently eating more! i was so hungry. eating helped with the nausea and energy. by trimester two i didn’t have any symptoms. however, the eating increased!

I ate alot of carbs. ALOT! pasta was ovbiously. my carb of choice.

i didn’t have any pregnancy food cravings. i just let myself enjoy food. even before i was pregnant i never really watched what i ate. however, i obviously ate alot more healthier and was more concious. pregnant though, ate anything and everything (minus the things your not allowed to have).

week 12 and 13 scan

there’s a baby in there. this was our first proper ultrasound. this is where they check everything is growing perfectly.

let’s skip over to week 18.

week 18 and 19 were usually the feeling of the kicks weeks. UNFORTUNATELY, i was blessed with 8 days of gastro! gastro when pregnant is the worst. it honestly sucks! so i WOULDN’T even know if the baby was WIGGLING around because i lived on the bathroom floor. i blame some red meat i undercooked.

week 19

Baby is the size of a mango at 19 weeks. this is when i noticed i was popping more than usual for the entire day. moving away from that weird bloated look.

week 20

this is when we felt out first real kicks. when i say kicks, to me they were more like really bad gas moving around. some people say they experience butterflies or little flutters.

20 week scan. baby is the size of a CANTALOUPE. around this point i gained a total of 4kg.

babymoon

from week 21 - 24 we were in europe.

now remember travelling internationally between countries is actually pretty hard, it’s DEFIANTLY harder to do pregnant. not impossible but not do what we did and squeeze in too many countries. pick 2 or 3 and stay put.

however, everyone is different with travelling im just going off my experience.

i found i was alot more tired. i slept alot. i had 9 hours + sleep. per night and usually an afternoon nap. looking back i wish i was sleeping like that now.

if i could give any recommendation about travelling when pregnant it would be to consider convience. dont book accommodations on the top of hills. don’t book things too far. out of town if you plan on walking everywhere. lots of water. don’t try and be a superstar like me and attempt 20,000 steps a day. yes, i was doing that on day one and completely ruined my hips. we ended up having to move rooms so i could have a bath everyday to settle it. it helped!

a babymoon was the best thing we did. we really got to experience the big changes without distractions. it was so nice to spend that quality time with each other.

week 22

week 22 was when i was NOTICEABLY pregnant by everyone else. it was a really weird feeling. not many of my clothes were fitting me so i went to zara to get some things to get me through the trip. im not one to ever try on clothes. i hate it so much. i usually buy my size and 99% of the time it looks good. so now i was having to try on everything. oddly i was sensitive to compliments at this stage. anyone who told me i looked beautiful, i would start crying. it was just overwhelming. haha so unlike like because i never cry.

week 23

bigger bump! same as before just growing from the inside out. baby is the size of an eggplant now.

BY THE TIME WE GOT HOME FROM EUROPE I WAS AROUND 9.3 KG HEAVIER.

WEEK 24

MY HIPS STARTED TO REALLY GET SORE AROUND THIS POINT. SO I WAS SEEING A MYO THERAPIST AT MUSCLE AND BONE CLINIC ONCE/ TWICE A MONTH. JUST TO HELP LOOSEN THNGS UP. I WAS STILL DOING ALL MY NORMAL EXERCISES. WAS GETTING LOTS AND LOTS OF KICKS AT THIS POINT AND SLEEPING LIKE A DREAM! IT WAS A REALLY GOOD TIME.

OVERALL, TRIMESTER TWO WAS REALLY EASY. MY SKIN WAS GREAT. MY HAIR WAS GROWING REALLY QUICKLY. FEELING FANTASTIC!

I DID SO SO MUCH.

I DECIDED TO GET EVERYTHING DONE WHILE I WAS FEELING GOOD. I HAD THE NURSERY DONE DURING THIS PERIOD. ORGANISED THE PRAM. JUST SET UP EVERYTHING. LUCKILY I DID IT WHILE I WAS MOBILE, NOW IM SITTING HERE 2 WEEKS AWAY FROM HAVING A BABY AND COMPLETELY IMMOBILE.

BEFORE I WAS PREGNANT.I SAT AROUND 56-57 KG. BY THE END OF TRIMESTER TWO I WAS WEIGHING 68KG.
