COSMETIC TATTOOING - Lip Blushing

So here we are again.

same place, different treatment.

now, if you saw my instagram (@leahjay_) you would have seen me laying in a cosmetic chair with glad wrap strapped over my mouth. no, i wasn’t being kidnapped. i was a willing participate.

participate in what you say? lip tattooing.

If you follow me and pay close attention to my make up you will know that i love love love love love an overdrawn lip. but what you wouldn’t know is i hate my make up smudging and coming off, ESPECIALLY my lip liner. i use alot of bronzer or brow eye liner to create this enlarged lip shape trickery so its important to. not smudge off. .

so me being … well me. i researched how i could get lip liner that doesn’t come off. in OTHER-WORDS permenant lip liner. and that my friends is where i first discovered cosmetic tattooing.

so done the rabbit hole of google i went. now im going to be honest with you guys. after googling the results i really wasn’t impressed and also there wasn’t much information. and also every google image i saw was this pink or peachy lip which isn’t something i wanted. i simply wanted my own natural colour, just extended to my lip line.

in saying that, i also saved the hashtag #Liptattooing and watched the updates religiously. this is where i ended up finding Cosmetic Tattooing MElbourne.

Where do i start.

well i started with emails. lots and lots of emails. thank you shelley for being so patient with me and so helpful with giving me an abundance of information. iin the gallery below are images i found which led me to feel slightly unsure about this treatment.

okay lets get into it!

So What Is Lip Blushing?

Lip blushing is a type of cosmetic tattooing that semipermanently enhances lip color by depositing colored ink into the lips with a mechanical needle. The resulting lip tattoo is subtle, not saturated, thanks to recent advances in semipermanent makeup. Lip blushing gives lips a gorgeous, barely-there flush without the lifetime commitment of a traditional tattoo.

the benefits include:

  • Increased pigmentation for pale and aging lips

  • The ability to customize your lip shade

  • Fuller-looking lips without need for injectables or surgery

  • Enhanced lip symmetry

  • Color correction for scars and uneven pigmentation

  • Long-lasting lip color

before

so this is my lips before the treatment. what i really wanted was to extend the edges to make them appear wider and fuller.

Step 1 / numb

cosmetic tattooing like normal tattooing does hurt. so the numbing takes the edge off. the numbing is applied for around 15 to 20 minutes. i personally hate being numbed because my lips swell up so big and i feel so uncomfortable.

next up - colour selection.

as you can see there is an overwhelming amount of pigments to choose from. almost like walking into a nail salon and picking from thousands. however, nail polish can be removed and tattooing can not be. so this part is important.

shelley and i discussed the colour i wanted which was the same as my natural colour with a touch more earthiness to it. so we mixed bad girl, pillow talk, mauve and tea rose. the colour is then mixed together and applied to your lips. then you are able to see if you want to tweak it.

Step 2 / outline

this is where shelley and i mapped out exactly where i wanted my lip tattooing to go. paying close attention to the corners. the white pencil is the boarder and the red is the areas to focus on. we also focused on a sharp cupids bow

how lip blushing works

Using a single needle and a quick, consistent hand motion, Lip blushing creates a series of dots as opposed to a solid line as the needle goes in and out of the machine, penetrating the skin. Lip blushing is done with a nano needle to create pixel dots to create a fuller and more symmetrical lip.

the procedure itself is so simple and importantly pain free. it just feels like a slight scratching feeling over your lips. nothing UNBEARABLE. this part took around 1.5 hours.

Halfway

so by this point we are mostly done. there are a few patches in the centre on my lips because we started on the edges and boarder. then it’s just a matter of blending it in.

finished! So this is the final result immediately after. it looks pretty intense. however, it will heal 60% lighter in colour over the next few days. the aftercare is basically no coloured drinks or food for the next 24 hours and no lipsticks, lipglosses etc. you are given a post care healing balm which is used for lip tattooing specifically.

day 1

gah! it looks like im wearing a matte smug proof lipstick. i can assure you this doesn’t last. my lips also felt really tight and i was constantly applying the balm. my lips are still fairly swollen.

day 3

where’s the colour? this is COMPLETELY normal. the tattoo just fades away to nothing for a few days.

The healing process for lip blush tattoos takes about 3 weeks to completely heal and have the overall result.

this is my lips healed around the 3 week mark with no products on them.

you can see the lip line is more defined and my lips look full.

overall the treatment and the downtime are really easy. there isn’t much to it. i am really happy with the results and think this is a great alternative to fillers.

the cost for lip blushing with cosmetic tattooing melbourne (located in st kild) is around $750-$850. i think it’s really important to go to a reputable tattooist so you don’t end up like with a bad tattoo job like before.

always, hope this blog was helpful to you.

if you have any questions please ask me or message shelley here
